Searsville
She was the 'UPS truck' of the last century. A schooner, she was unparalleled in efficiency, sailing Cape Cod Bay and making daily stops regardless of the tides. She provided vital provisions to the Cape's inhabitants. Blackball Hill in Dennis served as the clockwatch for the small schooners and locals on the South Shore were informed of the approaching schooners and of their departures. It gave them time to prepare for the 8-mile trek to reach the bay shore ports. When the ball rose to the pole's top, the schooner was in; when it was lowered, the tardy missed the boat.
